Description
The Medicine Hat SPCA is currently recruiting a casual/part time Kennel Assistant to join our team.
This will be a flexible, hourly position that includes evenings and weekends as required.
The right candidate will be dependable, responsible, cheerful, able to follow instruction and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. This position requires effective communication, a team player, the ability to multi-task and good time management.
The Kennel Assistant may be subjected to dangerous and/or diseased animals as well as chemical cleaners. Additionally, individuals might be exposed to potential allergens such as pet dander, hay, and dust.
Qualifications
Requirement:
- Capable of lifting a minimum of 40lbs.
- Minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Applicants must be minimum 18 years old
- Experience working in an animal shelter and/or veterinary clinic would be considered an asset
Responsibilities
General duties include:
- Provide excellent customer service to visitors and potential adopters
- Prepare food and feed animals
- Monitor and document animal health and behavior
- Clean and disinfect kennels, runs, stalls, cages, and enclosures
- Administer medications as directed
- Ability to work with a variety of animals including cats, dogs, and small animals
