The Opportunity - Operations Department | Full-Time Position (4 month seasonal) |Monday-Friday | 7am-5pm | ~May-August
Looking for summer employment? Enjoy working outside, performing a variety of tasks? Do you have previous experience in light equipment operation? Lacombe County is accepting applications for Summer General Labourers to work with the maintenance and/or construction crew members in our Operations department, performing a variety of manual and physical tasks throughout Lacombe County. The approximate term date for this 4 month position is April 27, 2026 - August 28, 2026.
Qualifications
• Have experience (and enjoy) working outdoors in various weather conditions and be able to perform medium lifting and moving of objects up to 40lbs.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of small equipment (mowers, weed eaters, tractors, etc.) and to those with related labour experience.
• Possess and be able to maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (current abstract required upon hire).
• Must have a proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner.
• Able to understand and execute oral and written instruction.
• This position is considered a safety/ sensitive position. The successful applicant will need to participate in the Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.
The wage for this position starts at $24.95hr (includes stat and vacation pay) for the first 8hrs
and $33.66/hr for overtime hours.
Normal working hours are 9.5 hrs/day (8hrs regular, 1.5hrs OT) from 7am-5pm.
Responsibilities
• Perform a variety of general labour tasks at various parks, beaches and green spaces.
• Operate basic hand and power tools including weed eaters, ride-on mowers, UTV’s, pickup trucks, etc.
• Perform a variety of landscaping and clean-up activities as directed.
• Assist with the maintenance and construction of roads, pavements, trails, road clearing, site clean-up, and traffic control functions.
• Assist as back up to the Summer Labourer position specific to the County office and recreation facilities.
• Interact with the public in a respectful and professional manner.
• Participate in workplace safety initiatives and meetings as required. Report to work fit for duty.
