Description
The County of St. Paul is looking for a full-time seasonal Spray Truck Operator to support the County’s Vegetation Management Program. This role focuses on roadside and right of way weed control through safe and effective herbicide application, accurate record keeping, and basic equipment care.
Qualifications
A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Ability to read and write English clearly to follow safety procedures, label directions, and complete required documentation.
Pesticide Applicator Certification or Authorized Assistant status is considered an asset.
The County will support the successful candidate in obtaining the required training and certification shortly after starting, if needed.
Experience operating spray equipment, farm equipment, or similar equipment is considered an asset.
Knowledge of weed identification and herbicide application practices is considered an asset.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are required.
Strong attention to detail is required for accurate record keeping and safe handling practices.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is operating the County’s one ton spray truck to complete roadside herbicide applications. This includes mixing, loading, and applying herbicides in accordance with label directions, County procedures, and applicable legislation. You will complete daily pre trip inspections and assist with basic maintenance and cleaning of the truck and spray system.
You will be responsible for accurately completing spray records, maps, and related field documentation, and you will gain experience identifying crops, weeds and monitoring treatment effectiveness throughout the season.
While operating the spray truck is the main focus, this role also supports the broader Agriculture and Waste Services team. When weather conditions are not suitable for spraying, you may assist with other field and labour based tasks. These may include waste site support, assisting with beaver control activities, roadside seeding, operating ATVs or side by sides, applying herbicides using backpack sprayers, and completing basic data entry or reporting tasks. Throughout the season, you will work directly with County staff, landowners, and residents in a professional and respectful manner.
Pay Rate
$18.61-$29.50/hour
