Description
The County of St. Paul is looking for reliable and motivated individuals to join the Agriculture and Waste Services team in a full-time seasonal role as the Agriculture and Waste Field Assistant. This position is well suited for students or individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in agriculture, environmental services, and municipal operations. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, is comfortable with physical work, and is willing to take on a variety of tasks as part of a team. An interest in agriculture or municipal services is considered an asset, and training and support will be provided.
Qualifications
A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Ability to read and write English clearly to follow safety procedures, label directions, and complete required documentation.
Pesticide Applicator Certification or Authorized Assistant status is considered an asset.
The County will support the successful candidate in obtaining the required training and certification shortly after starting, if needed.
Experience operating spray equipment, farm equipment, or similar equipment is considered an asset.
Knowledge of weed identification and herbicide application practices is considered an asset.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are required.
Strong attention to detail is required for accurate record keeping and safe handling practices
Responsibilities
The Agriculture & Waste Field Assistant supports a wide range of Agriculture and Waste Services activities and provides hands-on experience in municipal field operations. Your work will involve assisting with vegetation management tasks, such as manual weed and brush control; supporting weed, crop, and pest inspections; and helping with seeding, erosion control, and site restoration projects.
You will spend most of your time working outdoors and completing physical field work. This may include operating hand tools, assisting with light equipment operation, and helping with general maintenance tasks. You will also collect GPS or map based field data using tablets or mobile devices and assist with basic data entry and record keeping.
In addition to agricultural work, you will support waste management operations as needed, including assisting at transfer stations and with general site cleanup and maintenance. You will work closely with County staff and may interact with landowners and residents, so professionalism and communication are important parts of the role.
Pay Rate
$18.61-$29.50/hour
