With a focus on sustainable irrigation design, some of our specialties include irrigation infrastructure assessments, life-cycle modeling, feasibility analysis and storm water capture & reuse. At ion you will have the opportunity to become involved on a wide array of irrigation projects, including some of the largest and most challenging in Western Canada. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Irrigation Design Technologist to join our growing irrigation consulting team. Exceptional client service and efficiencies in meeting project deliverables is key to our business success.
As part of our consulting practice, you will support the design process from concept through construction, preparing irrigation plans, specifications, cost estimates, and as-built drawings. You’ll collaborate with landscape architects, engineers, and project managers to deliver efficient, well-coordinated, and code-compliant irrigation systems that align with both client objectives and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications
• Diploma or certificate from a 1–2 year post-secondary program in Irrigation, Engineering Technology, Landscape Design, or a related field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy, quality control, and documentation.
• Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to manage time effectively in a deadline-driven consulting environment.
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset.
Assets:
• Previous work experience as an Irrigation Technician, or within an irrigation consulting, landscape architecture, or engineering firm is a definite asset, but not required.
• Experience using survey or GPS field equipment is also an asset.
Responsibilities
• Prepare irrigation design drawings, specifications, and material lists for commercial, residential, municipal, and institutional projects.
• Develop water-efficient irrigation systems utilizing drip, spray, and rotor applications tailored to site-specific requirements.
• Perform hydraulic calculations, pressure zoning, and water budgeting in accordance with municipal bylaws, CSA standards, and LEED or sustainable design frameworks.
• Coordinate with landscape architects, civil/mechanical engineers, and contractors to ensure technical integration and constructability.
• Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, tender documents, and technical specifications.
• Conduct site inspections and field assessments, providing technical input during construction and commissioning.
• Maintain well-organized digital project files, drawings, and correspondence in accordance with firm standards.
• Research and specify appropriate irrigation products, control systems, and smart technologies based on project goals and supplier availability.
• Stay informed on industry standards, technological advancements, and water conservation practices.
• Support internal design quality control processes and contribute to ongoing improvements in firm standards and templates.
• Foster positive collaboration and professional communication with clients, consultants, and internal project teams.
