Position Overview
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) works collaboratively within a team to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children from 12 months to kindergarten. ECEs support the developmental, emotional, social, and physical growth of each child while building strong, respectful relationships with families and colleagues.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Alberta Child Care Certification (Level 1, 2, or 3) or equivalent—Level 2 or 3 preferred.
Current First Aid with CPR Level C.
Current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Experience in early childhood education or a similar role, preferably in a Reggio-inspired or play-based environment.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt to changing situations and meet the needs of individual children.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Child Development
Implement a play-based, emergent curriculum aligned with Reggio-inspired principles and licensing regulations.
Observe, document, and assess children’s interests, development, and learning progress, using tools such as Storypark.
Create inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate activities that support curiosity, creativity, and skill-building.
Support children in developing self-help skills, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions.
Health, Safety & Supervision
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment, ensuring compliance with Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations.
Supervise children at all times, following ratio requirements and safety protocols.
Support children with feeding, diapering, and toileting routines, ensuring dignity and privacy.
Follow all health, hygiene, and allergy protocols, including safe food handling when applicable.
Communication & Collaboration
Build positive relationships with families, providing daily updates and ongoing communication.
Work collaboratively with fellow educators, studio managers, and leadership to ensure smooth classroom operations.
Attend staff meetings, professional development days, and training sessions.
Communicate observations, concerns, and successes to management in a timely manner.
Classroom & Resource Management
Maintain and update classroom materials, ensuring they are inviting, safe, and purposeful.
Use assigned tools (fanny pack, work phone, clipboard, emergency backpack) as part of daily operations.
Support classroom transitions, clean-up routines, and end-of-day procedures in a fun, engaging way.
