Parks Canada hires a large number of students and youth during the summer season and we would love to have you on our team. We offer a variety of jobs and are looking for youth with a wide range of interests and skills.

Qualifications
To be eligible, you must:
1) Have legal status to work in Canada. You will be asked to indicate the reason for which you are entitled to work in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or work permit).
2) Be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited institution (High School, College,
University)
3) Be returning to full-time studies for the next academic term (post-employment), or have recently graduated (<4 months since graduation). Proof of full-time student status or completed degree will be required at a future date.
4) Have own transportation to get to and from the workplace.
Additionally, applicants are required to have a:
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain and weather;
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and required protective clothing.
Responsibilities
#1 – Interpretation: Present a variety of captivating, and memorable interpretation programs at Elk Island National Park, including drop-in programs, evening programs, school group activities, and guided tours.
#2 – Maintenance: This opportunity involves plenty of outdoor hands-on work by providing general labour services such as mowing grass, clearing trails and painting. You will also assist with the maintenance and cleaning of visitor facilities and roads using various hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
#3 - Resource Conservation: Assist our ecologists and technicians with wildlife and vegetation monitoring, preventing and mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, active management projects including invasive plant management, ecological research, and environmental assessments in the park. These positions will require both data management and extensive field work.
#4 – Park Guardians: Reach park visitors “where they are”, with relevant and engaging messages. This includes providing information to visitors on safety, prevention, human wildlife co-existence, and compliance, including issuing friendly reminders. You will assist in managing bison jams on park roadways and in other wildlife safety activities. You will also be stationed at high use day use areas to assist with traffic management and safety compliance.
#5 Learn to Camp – Edmonton: The Learn-to Camp program aims to connect with Canadians who face barriers of access and/or have been traditionally excluded from outdoor recreational activities. As a member of the Learn-to Camp team, you would be developing and delivering creative and engaging outdoor programming across Edmonton. This could look like helping people plan their next trip, showing someone how to set up a tent, teaching schoolchildren about how to leave no trace, or staring up at the night sky with a first-time camper. Previous camping experience not required!
