Do you take pride in your administrative skills and are able to excel in a high volume, dynamic environment? The Medicine Hat Remand Centre (MHRC) requires a motivated, energetic administrative professional to contribute to their continuing growth and success.
The Offender Accounts/Personnel –Payroll Clerk is a dual roll position under the direct supervision of the Business Manager. You will provide trust account services to inmates and visitors utilizing standard cash handling protocols. This will include inputting daily financial transactions, preparing cheques and bank deposits, balancing reports, collecting and verifying bail and fines and payment of invoices.
You will also be responsible for preparing documentation in connection with the commencement, employment, terminations, pay and benefits and all relevant weekly and monthly reports and statistics regarding position status and overtime analysis.
Being the liaison between Centre staff, Pay and Benefits, Human Resource Services, Workers’ Compensation Board, Long-Term Disability and Centre Management will require well developed communication skills and discretion. Maintaining an in-depth working knowledge of the Master Agreement and human resource policies and procedures is a must. Reliability and punctuality are paramount to this position.
As the ideal candidate, you will maintain a high standard of discretion through your regular exposure to confidential information. This position functions with very little direct supervision, and as such, the ability to remain focused and self-motivated is essential. This position is also required to cover in the absence of the Receptionist and Business Manager.
As this position requires the handling of sensitive information, a high degree of confidentiality and diplomacy is required. Your efficiency, combined with strong organizational skills, will ensure your success in managing multiple tasks and timelines in this high volume environment. Teamwork, flexibility, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines will contribute to your success in this role.
High School Diploma and a minimum of three years related experience is required.
Knowledge of databases as well as Government of Alberta systems such as ETMS, Schedule Pro, ORCA, BERNIE and 1GX is an asset. Preference may be given to those with payroll and benefits administration experience.
Assets: Related post-secondary education is an asset.
Experience working in a correctional centre, or community corrections
Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Related experience may include but is not limited to experience with payroll and benefits administration experience.
Related education may include but is not limited to Business Administration, Office Management, Business Management, Human Resources etc.

Term Of Appointment
This is a full-time temporary position based out of Medicine Hat Remand Centre, with working hours of Monday to Friday 8:15 AM-4:30 PM 36.25 hours a week.
The Medicine Hat Remand Centre is located at 874 2 Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta. Parking is available on site.
You will be eligible for a Correctional Institutional Salary Allowance for each day worked.
Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
